Some also go underground by leak. Some of these waters remain close to the surface and rejoin the surface water as ground water discharge.

To overcome these problems, animals also have evolved with a wide variety of physiological and behavioral adaptations. Many animals living in hot deserts are small. They spend the hottest times of the day under plants or underground and hunt at night. Animals such as kangaroo rat keep their living with the water in food. The biomass is very low and the biota is quite specialized.
